Rohitava Banerjee is a young luxury womenswear designer based in New York City. Displaying a quiet, romantic spirit from a young age, Rohitava could often be found lost in a world of stories and drawings inspired by his appreciation for history and lost civilizations.
As he grew older, Rohitava began to use his drawings and sketches as an outlet to express his strong creative mind. His work became bolder and his eye shifted to fashion and apparel design. Enrolling at the Parsons School of Design in 2014, he began experimenting with original silhouettes, unexpected shapes, and unique color palettes. He also began to introduce intricate embroidery and print work into his garments, as a way to fully incorporate his passion for storytelling.
Today, Rohitava’s work continues to reflect his eternal love for history and narrative, often drawing parallels between historical occurrences and today’s contemporary world. Rohitava made his New York Fashion Week debut in February 2016, showing a 30 piece collection inspired by Greek mythology. Subsequently called a wunderkind by the NY Post and compared to Alexander McQueen, he’s now looking to the future as he prepares to show his SS17 follow-up collection in September 2016.
Rupal Banerjee designs accessories for Rohitava’s line and recently released her own line, High Street. She weaves youth and beauty into her embroidery designs.
She has dreamt of being designer since as far back as she can remember, and started designing at age nine. Currently enrolled at Parson’s School of Design in 2016, Rupal is focused on pursuing her passion.
Together, this brother and sister duo is quickly gaining acclaim in the fashion industry for incorporating their innovative design processes with their appreciation of their vibrant cultural roots in India.
